The PUCS Individual Tuition Discount Program is an opportunity to reduce your tuition. Here’s how it works — You pre-purchase debit cards (scrip) for merchants that you already use.
By purchasing scrip, you can put your regular shopping dollars to work in earning money towards your child’s tuition.
What is Scrip?
Scrip means “Substitute Money.” When you purchase scrip, you are purchasing debit cards that are used just like cash. We are partnering with Great Lakes Scrip Center and they have been selling scrip from 250 merchants for 10 years.
How Scrip Can Reduce Your Tuition
Participating merchants allow non-profit organizations to pre-purchase scrip at a discounted rate. The greater the discount, the greater the savings toward your tuition. You receive this discount amount minus 10%, which is used to cover the administrative costs of the Scrip program. Please note that discounts vary by merchant.
Here’s an Example
Let’s assume the Smith family purchases $100 from ZZZ Sporting Goods to buy gifts. ZZZ gives an 8% discount so the Smith family earned $7.20 reduction for their tuition.
In other words… 8% of 100 is $8.00 and 10% of the $8.00 ( $.80 ) goes to administrative costs, so $8.00 – $.80 = $7.20. The Smith family just reduced their tuition by making a purchase they would have made anyway.
Who Can Participate?
Our program is open to anyone. Your family can participate and purchase scrip as often as you wish. Please note, we are not asking you to buy something extra; scrip is just another way to do your regular shopping.
How Can You Purchase Scrip?
Please fill out the Individual Tuition Reduction Order Form for the merchants you choose. Great Lakes Scrip Center has over 250 merchants available. Our PUCS order form has approximately 40 vendors listed, but feel free to write in others from the Great Lakes Scrip Center Merchant List.
Next, calculate your total and enclose a check for the full amount, payable to PUCS. Please indicate Scrip in the memo. Checks are the only acceptable form of payment. If your check bounces, you’ll be required to pay any bank fees and future orders must be made with a money order.
Please return your order form and payment to the PUCS office in the Scrip’s envelope by the deadline. Please see below. Also, orders must be picked up in person from the PUCS office. Orders cannot be sent home with students.
