OSTC – Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit Program
Dear PUCS Parents-
There has been a flurry of questions about a new Pennsylvania state program providing scholarships to low and middle-income families.
- Here is an overview of that program: Opportunity Scholarship Program Overview (PDF) as published on the PA Department of Education website. Here are the specific guidelines for businesses: OpportunityScholarshipTaxCredit_Guidelines_For_Businesses_
- In order to be eligible, your neighborhood school must be on the list of low performing schools in the state of Pennsylvania (the bottom 15%). Here is the list: List of Low Achieving Schools (PDF). To confirm your eligibility, contact your public school district. They will determine your neighborhood school based on your home address.
- PUCS is enrolled in the OSTC program. However, we cannot award OSTC scholarships to students without receiving donations from businesses participating in the OSTC program.
- Please help PUCS connect with businesses. Here is our guide to the OSTC program you can share with your friends and business owners:
PA’s Department of Community and Economic Development created a guide to help businesses in filling out the online application (see link below). Businesses will need their Federal Employers Identification Number and create a login ID to complete the application.
We would love to talk with them. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me by phone or email.
Bob Phelps, Executive Director
At PUCS, we want to create an environment where everyone can flourish (students, parents, faculty, board members and those supporting the schools mission). We also want to be a blessing to the greater Wilkinsburg /Pittsburgh community as well. Please pray for wisdom, patience, and the provision of resources to be effective in our endeavors.
If you are looking to volunteer, please contact Colleen Drudy at (412) 244–1779 and she can help you find opportunities to serve. Colleen can also assist if you have other resources (computers, office, educational supplies, etc.) to donate to PUCS.
If you would prefer to make a monetary contribution, donations are now accepted online.
Thank you for your generosity. Your special gift can be a generous blessing to students and families.
